About Margie Cosgrave

I grew up in semi-rural Brisbane on a small farm, travelling at length to and from school each day for a solid, well-rounded education. It was clear from a young age that I was oriented to enhancing and correcting work rather than writing wildly creative pieces! My life-long interest in language also appeared at a tender age.​

After four years of university in Canberra (see my qualifications below), I spent 19 years in a range of office-based roles, primarily in charitable and non-profit organisations. Throughout, at the core, was work with written material - transcribing, writing, compiling and editing annual reports, policy documents, board minutes, manuals, publicity material and newsletters. The progression to professional copyeditor has been a very natural one.  

 

Freelancing allows an immediate working relationship with my clients, which I love, as well as a flexible work pattern. The latter makes it possible to continue my other regular occupation – keeping up a substantial vegetable garden and orchard with my husband. (If you come on a working visit to my home, you might leave with a bunch of bananas, a pot of honey and several lettuces.)

 

I will work enthusiastically with any kind of written material within any industry. I highlight that I have a background and special interest in the arts, humanitarian, cross-cultural, ethical, environmental and sustainability fields.  I also have a more recent and rapidly growing interest in life stories and memoirs.
